Lunch Sketch #8

I guess I have been influenced by the current Kony-2012 campaign, I chose to draw this child soldier from the Congo, it was a little difficult, I’m trying to run before I’ve learned to walk, why didn’t I chose some flowers in a vase instead. Still, I have learned a lot from this little exercise – mainly that I need to be looser in my painting style, use less colour and to scrub less.

A forgotten watercolour

I found this watercolour sketch today, under a pile of old invoices and receipts. I painted it on A4 office paper, hence the wrinkles …

It is hard speed-sketching with watercolours – but it’s fun!

Starting to sketch with watercolours.

I have started to use watercolour while life drawing. I am just learning to handle the medium so having to work at speed really helps, one doesn’t have time to worry, one just has to go for it!
This model was getting chemotherapy and so her hair had fallen out and she looked very tired, especially her eyes, it was very haunting, still, I admired this 60 year old woman for not letting cancer stop her. These sketches are from 2012.03.17, Saint Patrick’s Day.

Lunch Sketch #7

I thought it would be a good painting exercise to capture Arnold Schwarzenegger’s muscles with water colour. This will probably take a whole week of lunchtime sketching, this is day Nr. 1.
