Not quite home.

I feel so strange in Northern Ireland, my family live here but I never did. I grew up in the south. The cultures are very different, surprisingly so because Ireland is a smallish island. So coming home is not quite coming home, my parents moved here just before the beginning of the new millennium, that was 19 years ago. Like I said, it’s a strange feeling. Anyway, where is home? It’s in Stockholm of course! So homes move – mobile homes, I like the sound of that.
To be fair Northern Ireland is a beautiful place and there is lots of great scenes to paint and sketch. Today I drove to Groomsport not far from Bangor and did a quick painting of a house that I have painted before. I have put a link to that one here. It was a lovely day, it felt nice to smell the sea air and hear the seagulls sing. Yes, I know they don’t sing very well but it was enjoyable anyway!

Ice cream queue

I am enjoying my trip to Asia. Right now I am visiting my son in Iwakumi. This sketch is of a father and son who queued up for ice cream at the Wooden Bridge, a tourist spot in Iwakuni, Japan. From my sketchbook.

Meldrum Kroki

Meldrum Kroki (Life Drawing) is going well, I started in October last year and I now have a regular group of Sketchers that come each week. If you are interested in joining the Facebook group to get invited to the next life drawing session please click here.

It takes a while to build up a network of models. It also takes time to gain trust as it’s a sensitive business. Imagine yourself coming to a stranger’s apartment to pose naked in their living room. Like I said, it’s going well and word has spread that Meldrum Kroki is a pleasant experience for everybody who attends.

In the autumn I hope to rent a larger room. It will be important that I maintain the cozy warm atmosphere that exists right now in my home.

Busy busy busy

I’ve been really busy lately which is a positive thing but it means I find it hard to publish my art. I was at Konstnärshuset yesterday but these are not those sketches because these are from the week before! I think the model’s name is Dennis but I’m not 100 about that. He’s very good, definitely one of my favourite male-models.

Sketched on A3 paper using charcoal pencil and charcoal dust that I apply with my finger.

Monday at Master Olafsgården

Kinda, one of my favourite life drawing models. It was such a pleasure to sketch her, I didn’t mind freezing my butt off at the bus stop later because I just missed the bus.

Meldrum Kroki

I started having life drawing evenings in my living room last October. It has gone very well, both the artists and the models are happy with the arrangement.
The only negative is that I have to empty my living room and cover the floor with protective waxed paper. It takes too many hours for me to set it up and then dismantle. I would not mind if I have more people attending each week but this is impossible as my living room is full, there is no space.

This is why I am now looking for a large room in central Stockholm that I can use for life drawing on a Thursday evening. I need a room for 4 hours between 18.00 and 22.00 each Thursday.
If you know of such a room, please do get in touch. Click here to contact me or visit the contact page. Thank you.
