David Meldrum Sketch

The great thing about learning to watercolour is the discovery that other mediums like pastels are much easier to use! I wonder why watercolour isn’t held in as high regard as say, oil or even acrylic painting, it is such a hard medium to master.

I bought some pastels yesterday, I plan to use them at Life Drawing classes for a few weeks as watercolouring is too stressful for me at the moment. The sketch below was done in about 15 minutes on A3 paper, it was fun to try something new.

I looked at a potential Ateljé /Studio today in Solna, Stockholm. I want to take the next step in my personal development as an artist. I said I’m interested so I hope I get a space there. I’ll find out in a couple of weeks. Exciting.

wonderful pastel in here,I see that you mastered what you touch no matter the medium. I prefer you when you are streesed whith watercolors.

I agree with you, watercolor is so difficult to master a style! Just when I think I've got the knack, the paint decides to do its own thing with the water and paper completely changing or ruining the style and comfort I had developed. That never seems to happen with other mediums. It's a challenge.

Yes, I am trying to get used to Arches watercolour paper at the moment, the colour pigment behaves so differently compared to cheaper non-cotton paper that I used previously. I guess one has to enjoy the struggle to master as it will take a long time to get there, if ever.
