A5 sketches again

I run my own life drawing session every Thursday evening. I have responsibilities making sure everyone is happy. This means I have no place to sit as all are taken, a full house makes me happy but it does mean that I have to stand in the background and sketch the best I can. This is why I am using a small A5 sketch book, it is small and easy to hold.
The model is an artist from Syria, she was very good and I hope she will return to Meldrum Kroki early next year.

Life drawing

It really is crazy at Basis each Saturday. 1,2,3 and 4 minute poses. One gets through a sketchbook pretty damn quick and I feel I am improving because of it. It becomes very instinctive.

My very own life drawing class

I feel so lucky, I have my very own life drawing class that I run in my home every Thursday evening. It’s proving to be very popular, I am learning a lot – like not to play music with too much of a beat. Brain Eno and Handel piano concertos seem to be appreciated most. I use studio lighting and that seems to be liked a lot. I at least think the lighting on the model is wonderful compared to the other life drawing venues in town.

Next year I aim to rent a larger space and have more attending Meldrum Kroki each week. But right now I am just taking just one step at a time.

Two – three minute poses

Here are Saturday’s offerings. I was hungover, so I was surprised I was able to sketch at all. All the poses were between 2 and 3 minutes long.
I used to find these sort of poses quite frustrating but these days I know my limits, I know I can only sketch so much. It is therefore important to capture the pose with so few lines as possible. Just one line would be the most optimal.

Why was I hungover? The new management at work does not want me to continue working part-time in 2018. I have to be 100% or leave. At least they want me 100%, that’s not bad. I of course would like to continue part-time as an artist, I have been doing so for two years. I really appreciate that I was allowed time to explore and develop into who I am today. Now I have to decide, do I become a full-time artist or not? … I have already made my mind up, it wasn’t very hard. 2018 is going to be a very exciting year. Stay tuned!

Wednesday’s life drawing

I visited a new studio in Hökarängen to do some life drawing this week. It was really enjoyable, I especially liked the fact the model had just one pose after the warming up period, we then had 20 minute sessions which allowed me to experiment with 3 watercolours which took about 30 minutes each. There was some sketching to warm up but I mostly painted.  Lars, was the name of the model.
Only one negative experience, I forgot my pencil case with all my favourite pencils and a small pocket knife. I rang the next day to the studio but they were gone.

Falling behind a little

I’ve been busy so I’ve had no time to publish my life drawings for a while. Even worse, I don’t have time to paint – this is unbearable, I need to paint everyday to feel good inside. Unfortunately, I have to earn a living and as yet I cannot support myself with my art alone. I wonder if I can ever become a professional artist, if I can earn enough through art alone?
These life drawings were sketched at Konsnärshuset with pencil on A3 paper, the poses were 2, 5 and 10 minutes long.

A man from India contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I could state the paper size etc. If you read this sir, I will try my best – I seem to have lost your email so this is why I am replying here.

Monday’s life drawing

Monday evenings, a small group and I usually go to a pub in the old town after our life drawing session. It’s really nice to go through our drawings and show to each other or successes and failures.

More life drawing from last week

Trying hard to clear a backlog of work that needs to be published. Trouble is, I need to paint too.
